NASPO honors Rhode Island's Fiscal Fitness Initiative
At a recent statewide training event held at the Department of administration, the Governor’s Fiscal Fitness Program announced a new contract with Federal Express that may potentially save thousands of taxpayer dollars at the state and local level. The event was attended by approximately 50 state and local purchasing officials and users of express mail services.
The Division of Purchases had requested proposals from express delivery carriers in order to centralize overnight delivery across State government, and to obtain the best rate possible under a competitive contract. Federal Express was selected and the State now will save up to as seventy percent less for its express mail services.
Additionally, these savings have been extended to cities, towns, and school districts across Rhode Island. Representatives from Federal Express and the state’s Computer and Mail Facilities (CMF) center provided information, training, and materials on this new service at the event contract launch event.
